More About Me

My approach to life is to follow what inspires me. At the center of that inspiration lives sound. My primary focus is auditory research, where I strive to advance the music listening experience for individuals with hearing impairment.  I believe experiencing music is a human right, and my goal is to make it so.

Background & Motivation

My introduction to auditory research began with the discovery of, and fascination for psychoacoustics during my undergraduate program. This curiosity led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Music Engineering, where I combined my background in music technology with this newfound love of auditory science. During my graduate studies, I focused my thesis on reducing internally generated bodily noise to improve otoacoustic emission (OAE) measurement. The goal of this project was to strengthen diagnostic tools for clinicians and researchers. My current goal is to apply the principles of music engineering to current practices in audiology research, with the focus of advancing diagnostic methods, and addressing knowledge gaps in hearing and cognition.

Performance & Production

Music became a priority for me at a young age. It manifested at first through musical theatre, songwriting soon thereafter, and by high school expanded into production—eventually leading me to pursue the Music Engineering degree at Frost (University of Miami). During my undergraduate years, I worked as a studio engineer—both as an intern outside of UM and independently for myself and other Frost musicians—as well as a live sound engineer for the university. In a short time, I learned how technology itself can be a creative act. This experience inspired a deeper wonder about the intricacies of sound’s existence at the biological level, which led me to where I am now. Beyond research and engineering, I continue to write songs almost every day and am able to share them through my band Ex Monarch, a grunge project formed with fellow Frost/UM musicians.
